Top Tips – Removing a Jammed filter?

Actually, the filter isn’t really that tight. the process of trying to unscrew it may cause it to jam. Here’s why.

Incorrect method

If you grip hard with your finger and thumb, you may actually be distorting the filter ring slightly. This will cause the ring to grip tight on the lens thread, the harder you grip, the harder it hangs on!

One handed grip

The one-handed grip can be used if you use three fingers and a thumb. Try to spread your points of contact evenly around the filter and only grip just hard enough to stop your grip slipping.

Two handed method

If you can safely rest your camera or lens (or grip it with your thighs), you can use the index finger and thumb from each hand. As before, just space out your grip points around the filter circumference and only grip as much as needed to stop your digits slipping.

I have not yet had a stuck filter that I have been unable to remove. Some are more stubborn than others, but with a little patience and jiggling, they will yield.
